Already Working For You

After 23 years of working in the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, I was appointed by the Raleigh County Commission to serve as the Raleigh County Sheriff for the remainder of Sheriff Van Meter’s term.  My experience within the Sheriff’s Office and close working relationship with Sheriff Van Meter, the Raleigh County Commission, and the law enforcement/criminal justice community as a whole allowed for a smooth and almost seamless transition.  I already had experience in most of the duties of the Sheriff and the various roles of the Sheriff’s Office. With little learning curve, the progression and modernization of the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, that began in 2017, continued.  In the past year alone, we opened our new Law Enforcement Headquarters, secured vital state and federal funding for desperately needed investigative tools, increased drug interdiction patrols, and began working with the Raleigh County Board of Education to construct a second full-service detachment in the Ghent area, establishing a permanent presence in that area of the County.

The work is not done.  Gangs and other bad actors from outside our state continue to poison our community with dangerous drugs, such as methamphetamines and fentanyl. I have seen first hand how the drug problem fuels other criminal activity.  I believe Raleigh County residents deserve a Sheriff that understands, from the ground up, how to best use the resources of the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office to work with the community to make it safe for families and appealing to businesses.  I believe my experience, education, and established network of resources makes me the most qualified candidate with proven leadership you can trust.
